How to (re)Commit to Your Goals
Because it's hard to do all the things when you're, well, doing all the things
t's the end of the first week of 2023 -- how are you feeling? If you're anything like me, this week has been a bit of a whirlwind.
Tons of "circling back" and "reconnecting" in the midst of Mercury Rx has left me feeling ready to crawl under the covers and hibernate until Spring.
Unfortunately, I am not a bear - and if you're reading this, I don't think you are either so that means you, too, need to find a way to cope with the burnout of being "back in the swing of things."
Burnout is Not a Badge of Honor
Oh my goodness. If I could go back and tell 20-something me this with a bullhorn, I would. I spent the first half of my corporate career in a perpetual cycle of burnout-resentment-fear.
I would work to achieve my goals, burning myself out in the process. Then I would resent all of the things I encountered because I was so burned out. Then I would have irrational fears because I was in this cycle that I couldn't seem to get out of.
I thought entrepreneurship would get me off this cycle for good and HOW WRONG I WAS! After the last three years, I am looking at life with fresh eyes and a new perspective; I am determined to put my wants and needs at the forefront of my decision-making lens this year.
Personally, that means I am recommitting to routines that ease my burnout -- burnout is always going to be there. It's how you recover that makes all the difference. Burnout doesn't have to be catastrophic to impact your life in a negative way, either -- any and all discomfort or disconnection you feel is:
Valid
Worthy of Attention
Fixable
Does this sound like something you could get behind? Let's talk (schedule a connection call now) - and keep reading to see exactly what I mean.
The Side Hustle Circus
Being an ambitious and multi-passionate human being means that I've had a side hustle since before it was cool.
It also meant I had burnout before anyone cared about mental health in the workplace. In fact, at many times in my career, I was told I cared "too much" about my trajectory and performance, and that I was "too emotionally invested."
Imagine that!?!
These days, we'd never dismiss anyone expressing mental health concerns in the workplace, however, those of us who have side hustles (or multiple hustles) will quickly dismiss our own mental health needs with ease.
WHY DO WE DO THAT! Because we're wired to succeed -- we have big missions, big goals and we're determined to make a big impact.
You wouldn't be reading this if you didn't want to change the world -- and the size of that world could be your immediate family or your community, or quite truly the whole world! It's not the size that matters -- it is the weight of the mission on your mental health.
Building a Sustainable Action Plan
Sustainability is a buzzword in this day and age, so allow me a moment to explain.
I'm not talking about climate change -- I'm talking about creating sustainable routines that increase your mental flexibility to deal with the things that come your way in your personal life, professional life and inner life.
Personal Life: The relationship you have with friends, family, a partner and those closest to you.
Professional Life: The relationship you have with how you earn the money you need to life a life you love.
Inner Life: The relationship you have with yourself, your hopes, dreams and fears that makes you the person you are at your core.
All three of these need to be balanced in order to get a life you love.
And that's where my new business venture comes in -- Mindset, Health + Business Coaching for humans who want to be fulfilled, avoid the burnout cycles and find new ways to expand their potential.
